Richmond-based engineering firm turns 20 and gives back to the community through three pro-bono projects.
RICHMOND, Va., June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Richmond-based Alliance Engineering marks its 20th Anniversary by reinvesting in the communities that are home to its regional offices. Through its offices in Richmond, VA, Baltimore, MD, and Newport News, VA, Alliance has partnered with community organizations to donate design and engineering services aimed at improving the local area. It also marks the beginning of an annual plan by Alliance to champion social responsibility - a plan devised by the firm's employees.
Founder Kevin Kokal, commented, "This anniversary belongs to the employees that have fueled the growth of our company. We couldn't think of a better way to show our appreciation then by giving back to the communities they call home." Kokal credits Alliance employees' strong community connections and spirit of charity for giving rise to the firm's generosity. "We are reflecting the character of our people through these projects and we are saying thank you."
The Richmond office's community project is the most ambitious. Working with the John J. Maddox River Conservation, Alliance committed to building a 550 foot boardwalk along the riverside trail. "This will truly be a structure that the entire Richmond community can enjoy," says Michael Golden, Director of the Chesterfield County, Virginia Department of Parks and Recreation. "Alliance is a special company with strong Richmond ties. It says a lot about who they are that they would commit their time and resources to this." The boardwalk is set to be unveiled to the public on June 6th.
In Baltimore, the Alliance team came together to support a charity near and dear to everyone's heart - Habitat for Humanity. Founder Jim Burnette noted that "Habitat has such a good thing going that there's no reason to reinvent the wheel. We believe in what they do and, as engineers, we figured we could lend a hand and build a home in the Baltimore area." The Alliance Engineering team, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity volunteers, completed the home's construction on May 30th.
It's the kids that won the attention of the Alliance Newport News office and who were the recipients of their act of social kindness. Alliance employees selected the Boys & Girls Club of the Virginia Peninsula as its partner for this year's inaugural social responsibility project. On April 25th, Alliance completed a park beautification project installing picnic tables, sand boxes, tetherball poles, basketball hoops, and dinosaur fossils in a recreational area. Mike Mullins of the Boys & Girls Club of the Virginia Peninsula commended Alliance on their contribution saying, "This is not something that the Boys and Girls Club would have been able to do without the help of Alliance Engineering. I can't say enough about the job that they did for our kids."
Kokal reflects, "Social responsibility is nothing new but it's needed more than ever today. At Alliance Engineering, we have a lot to be thankful for - talented employees, a growing business, and strong relationships in three communities. This is our way of showing our gratitude for 20 successful years." Plans are already in the works for next year's community giving projects. "It's a part of who we are," says Kokal.
